Rafting, Kayaking and Canoeing Trip
Come join fellow alums for a day of kayaking, rafting,
or canoeing! For people interested in an exciting
trip that is safe and enjoyable for all experience
levels, the Bull Falls and the Shenandoah Staircase
offer whitewater paddling through the Blue Ridge
mountains at Harper's Ferry, WV. These runs offer a
mixture of calm water
combined with technical Class II and III rapids.
You can choose to experience this river in a guided
rubber raft or along side in your own sit-on top
kayak. For those with prior whitewater experience you
and a friend can navigate this section in a canoe
along with the group for a more challenging trip.
River and Trail Outfitters in Harper's Ferry offers
this 6.5 mile (roughly 3-4 hours) trip on both
Saturday and Sunday all summer long. Harper's Ferry
is located approximately 1 hour from Washington, D.C.
and the town has plenty of things to see and do before
and after the trip. If you haven't visited this
historic site since your last elementary school field
trip or ever at all you are truly missing an
experience.
The most interesting and
independent way to see this stretch of the river is in
your own sit-on top kayak. This option is $64, which
includes shuttling to our put-in site and back to our
cars at the end and a lunch half-way through the trip.
You can choose to go along in a 5 person raft with a
guide on board for $58.75. Or for those with prior
experience looking for more of a challenge a canoe can
be rented for $61.50. All of these options depart
from River and Trail Outfitters at 11:30.
Details on this trip can be found at
www.rivertrail.com.
All of these options depart
from River and Trail Outfitters at 11:30 on each
weekend day.
